Gulf of St. Lawrence Figures

The main results from the study show that while ice occurring as far south as Sable Island is unknown in recent memory it did occur fairly regularly prior to 1948.  Generally, it appears the trend over the last 50 years has been of decreased ice extent and the fluctuation of ice extent over the last almost 200 years broadly agrees with the ice extent to the east of Newfoundland and over the Grand Banks for the same period as developed in a similar study. These two primary results are displayed in the two figures here.  All the values for ice extent by month and year can be seen in his table.
