About Icebergs

Icebergs are large pieces of glacial ice that float in bodies of water. Most icebergs are located on the Artic and Antarctic Oceans where they are created. Antarctic icebergs are mainly located north of the Antarctic sea ice limit and are frequently sighted south of the Antarctic Polar Front. Some Antarctic bergs have been spotted off the coasts of South America as the record for the northernmost sighting was at 26º 30'S, 18º 05'E off the coast of Brazil. On the other side of the world, Artic icebergs are confined to the region around Greenland, the northeastern part of Canada and the shores of Alaska. Some of the southernmost North Atlantic icebergs sightings have been off the Bermuda Islands and the Azores. North Atlantic Icebergs are constantly observed and reported as they oppose a great danger to ships and marine navigation.
